Ruth Cooper

PSHCE/RSE Trust Subject Leader

I have worked at Swanland school for about 14 years. I started as a class TA and then changed to working one-to-one with a year 1 child with Down Syndrome. I moved up the school with this class, working as a one-to-one while continuing my teaching degree. After qualifying, I worked as a teacher in several year groups and have been a year 5 teacher for about 9 years.

I took on the role as PSHCE/RSHE lead because wellbeing is a cause close to my heart. I enjoy supporting others with their wellbeing and I am keen to put initiatives in place across the trust so that we can all support one another. I think it is important that we, as teaching staff, are fully equipping the children with the necessary skills and knowledge to adapt to an ever changing world. As a trust, I want to build foundations to support and educate children beyond their academic learning. At Swanland School, I have worked with staff to build the school’s ethos into the curriculum and promote the school values. Likewise, I would like to develop ways in which the trust can work closely with their local communities.

Above all, I am looking forward to working with staff members across the Edukos Trust and supporting them in their development of PSHCE/RSHE in their schools.
